7-10 p.m., Revolution Café and Bar

COLLEGE STATION --

Brazos Valley science enthusiasts are in for a rare treat this Thursday (July 19) -- back-to-back outreach events, courtesy of partnerships between the Texas A&M University Astronomy Group and two local businesses.

First up in evening's lineup of free family fun is the fourth iteration of Astronomy on Tap B/CS, set for 7 to 9 p.m. at Revolution Café and Bar, followed by a Star Party at The Stella Hotel from 9 to 11 p.m. that also features a complimentary dessert bar and Stella S'mores from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

This month's Astronomy on Tap (AoT) event will showcase presentations from two Texas A&M astronomy graduate students: Alexander Riley with "Universe in a Box: Building Galaxies on a Computer" and Daniel Nagasawa with "The Universe and You: The Chemical Evolution from The Big Bang to Earth." While each international event varies by location -- from Austin to Taipei -- the common thread is sharing interest in and information about astronomy over a beverage at a local bar, where local experts can provide accessible, engaging presentations on topics ranging from planets to black holes to galaxies to the origin of the universe. Trivia will start at 7 p.m., followed by the first speaker at 7:30 p.m. RSVPs are encouraged but not required.

Meanwhile, Thursday's Star Party at The Back Yard marks the second in a three-event series at The Stella slated for the third Thursday of each summer month, weather permitting, and led by Texas A&M astronomer Dr. Jennifer Marshall. Each star party features a variety of telescope stations pointed at different celestial bodies, including planets, constellations and the moon. Members of Marshall's team will be stationed at each telescope to help guide visitors through the viewing process. In addition to the aforementioned complimentary dessert bar and an al fresco bar serving a variety of refreshing beverages, the hotel offers a 10 percent discount at their on-site restaurant, Campfire, for those who plan to stop by the restaurant prior to the event.

For more Stella Star Party information, visit the related Facebook event or call (979) 421-4000. Reservations for Campfire can be made through OpenTable or by calling (979) 421-4444.

For additional Astronomy on Tap information, see the event page on the AoT website or the related Facebook event. You can also follow AoT B/CS on Facebook and Twitter.
