D. Wayne Goodman, professor of chemistry at Texas A&M, has been appointed to the Robert A. Welch Chair in Chemistry, effective June 1. Goodman also is director of the Center for Catalysis and Surface Science. He is described at being a key figure in the development of modern surface science. Goodman's work focuses on a variety of surface chemical problems including relationships between catalytic reactions, the roles of promoters and poisons in catalytic reactions and the nature of metal-metal bonding in mixed-metal catalysts. He has received an Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award in Research from Texas A&M, the Yarwood Medal and the American Chemical Society's Ipatieff Prize and the Colloid and Surface Chemistry Award.
