COLLEGE STATION --
Texas A&M University chemistry professor Abraham Clearfield has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Spain's Universidad de Oviedo.
Clearfield is only the third American to receive the award, which recognizes his accomplishments in the field of solid state chemistry and the synthesis of new materials.
The mayor of Oviedo, city and state dignitaries, university officials and members of Clearfield's family attended the March 18 ceremony.
Clearfield is a professor in Texas A&M's Chemistry Department and directs the university's Materials Science and Engineering Program.
