The annual Texas A&M SAS® Analytics Forum, which began in 2013 to promote the importance of analytics in gaining a competitive advantage in business, highlights speakers from the SAS Institute Inc. and industry experts, including representatives from Entergy and General Motors this year.

Analytics gurus and industry leaders will highlight real-world uses of big data to make better business decisions during the Texas A&M SAS® Anayltics Forum, set for Thursday, October 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at CITYCENTRE in Houston.

The free event is hosted by the Texas A&M University Department of Statistics, which is home to an analytics master's program based out of Houston to teach working professionals the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly data-driven world.

"Big data and analytics is a growing field in which professionals can learn from each other and gain great insights to make better business decisions," said Myra Gonzalez, director of the Texas A&M master's in analytics program. "The purpose of this event is to provide a venue for people in the Houston business community as well as faculty, staff and students to get together and talk about analytics, share best practices and share case studies."

Speakers from SAS and other industry and academic experts will discuss how big data and analytics are being used in companies that specialize in energy, oil and gas, healthcare and manufacturing. Participants also will gain clarity about how businesses can benefit from using big data, common obstacles to big data and analytics, how companies can build an analytics culture for using big data, and the types of data, software and statistical methods used in analytical decision-making.

Participants are encouraged to register online to ensure a reserved seat. A free continental breakfast and light lunch will be available.
