Henrik Schmiediche has been appointed as director of information technology for the Texas A&M University College of Science, effective September 1, announced Dean H. Joseph Newton.

Schmiediche, Class of '87 and a senior lecturer in the Texas A&M Department of Statistics, has served as both a lecturer and the senior information technology lead in Texas A&M Statistics since 1993 as well as head of IT services for the college since 2003. He holds three degrees from Texas A&M: a bachelor's in computer science (1987) and both a master's (1989) and doctorate (1993) in statistics. Schmiediche's dissertation was on visualizing huge time series data sets.

"We are very fortunate to have someone with Henrik's knowledge and experience during this time when information technology is being studied in the college and throughout the university," said Newton, who served as Schmiediche's Ph.D. advisor.

As director of information technology, Schmiediche will be the point of contact for university IT initiatives and will continue to chair the College of Science Information Technology Committee.
