Post-Interview Actions

  • Immediately send an informal (email) thanking all interviewees
  • Solicit written remarks from those that met with or interviewed candidates. A feedback form (see sample) can be developed for this purpose.
  • Follow University requirements for documenting the search process and final candidate rankings, including completion of the whatever form
  • Personally call or email all finalists not selected as soon as the candidate selected has accepted the position offer.

Closing the Deal

  • Gather the data to submit the offer to the Dean of Faculties office (see guidelines):
    • Understand the candidates schedule and make sure they understand the department's schedule
    • Understand the candidate's expectations for start-up, salary, partner placement, and other constraints
    • All faculty job offers with start up funds from the VPR must have an approved New Faculty Start-up Request form from the Office of the Vice President for Research before an offer can be made.
  • Demystify the offer by setting as much context as you can and putting details in writing
    • Give them multiple contact people if they for gathering more information
    • Ask them what they will need to know in order to make the decision, and then work to provide what we can.
  • Get all appropriate approvals through the process as soon as possible so that the candidate sees that you are actively concerned about securing their offer.
