Texas A&M Biology College and Career Readiness (BCCRS) Symposium

Texas A&M BCCRS Symposium, as funded by a Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) grant, seeks to gather interested education and community/business leaders to experience the CCRS standards via the Biology CCRS strand and its accompanying activities. The BCCRS are "keystone" objectives for college and career preparedness that extend beyond the standard Biology TEKS (Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, 2009). On July 19 2010, the symposium was attended by 18 key public school personnel and 19 higher education faculty, including faculty from community colleges and teacher preparation programs, and deans. Attendees were able to:
- Increase understanding about the development and purpose of the CCRS
- Experience BCCRS aligned lessons, from the authors
- Begin or continue planning how to implement and align the BCCRS with the Science TEKS at their respective worksites
- Learn how the CCRS connect to higher educations
- Network with other school, community and higher education professionals

- Break-out sessions to experience hands on BCCRS Aligned Lessons

- $50 travel stipend for all non-TAMU employees
